جامع الأمهات هو كتاب في الفقه المالكي لابن الحاجب قصد مؤلفه من وضعه جمع ما تقدمه من مسائل الفقه وفروعه ملخصة من أقوال علماء المذهب المالكي وكتبهم المشهورة، وفي هذا يقول : لما كنت مشتغلا بوضع كتابي كنت أجمع الأمهات، ثم أجمع ما اشتملت عليه تلك الأمهات في كلام موجز، ثم أضعه في الكتاب حتى كمل. ويذكر بعض أهل العلم ممن لهم عناية بالكتاب أن ابن الحاجب اختصر كتابه من ستين ديوانا، وأن فيه من المسائل ست وستون ألف مسألة. …
Translation
Jami’ al-Umma is a book on Maliki jurisprudence by Ibn al-Hajib. In writing it, the author intended to collect the aforementioned issues of jurisprudence and its branches, summarized from the sayings of the scholars of the Maliki school of thought and their famous books. In this regard, he says: When I was busy writing my book, I used to collect the mothers, then collect what those mothers included in a brief statement, then put it in the book until it was completed. Some scholars who have an interest in the book mention that Ibn al-Hajib condensed his book into sixty collections, and that it contained sixty-six thousand issues. …
