المُقتضَب كتاب نحو عربي، يُعدّ الموسوعة النحوية الثانية بعد كتاب سيبويه، ألّفه المبرّد المتوفى سنة 285 الهجرية، امتاز كتاب المقتضب بوضوح العبارة وسهولتها، بسبب المهارة الأدبية التي اتصف بها مؤلفه المُبرّد، لم ينل المقتضب الشهرة والاهتمام بسبب انشغال النحويين بكتاب سيبويه، قال أبو البركات الأنباري في المبرّد «صنف كتباً كثيرة من أكبرها المقتضب، وهو نفيس، إلا أنه قلّما يُنتفع به».

Translation

Al-Muqtadsib is an Arabic grammar book. It is considered the second grammatical encyclopedia after the book of Sibawayh. It was written by Al-Mubarrad, who died in the year 285 AH. The book Al-Muqtadsib was distinguished by its clarity and ease of expression, due to the literary skill that characterized its author Al-Muqtadib. Al-Muqtadsib did not gain fame and attention due to grammarians’ preoccupation with Sibawayh’s book. Abu Al-Barakat Al-Anbari said in Al-Mubarrad, “He wrote many books, the largest of which is Al-Muqtadsib. It is valuable, but it is rarely used.”
