المعجم المختص بالمحدثين لِشمس الدين الذهبي هو معجم تراجمٍ وطبقاتٍ يختص بأسماء المحدثين، يُقَدِّمُ لمحاتٍ مختصرةً عن كلّ مُحدَّثٍ مع ذكر ألقابه ومعلوماتٍ أساسيةٍ عنه. يُرتَّبُ محتوى الكتاب وفق ترتيبٍ أبجديٍّ يبدأ بحرف الألف وينتهي بحرف الياء، مع إدراج الكنى لتسهيل التعرف على الشخصيات. يهدفُ إلى توثيقِ من جلسوا مع المحدثين أو أجازوا مروياتهم من طلبة الحديث، مع إبراز ما يميز كلّ منهم في هذا المجال.
