كتاب تاريخ دمشق واسمه الكامل «تاريخ مدينة دمشق - حماها الله - وذكر فضلها، وتسمية من حلٌَها من الأماثل، أو اجتاز بنواحيها من وارديها وأهلها» من تأليف الإمام الحافظ محّدث الشام ابن عساكر. وهو كتاب ضخم يقع في حوالي ثمانين مجلّدًا. ويعتبر من أكبر وأضخم وأهم المؤلفات في تاريخ الإسلام. تناول فيه المؤلف تاريخ مدينة دمشق، وتكلّم في تراجم الأعيان والرواة ومروياتهم من كل من سكن أو جاور أو مرّ بمدينة دمشق. وترجم لعدد هائل من الأعلام في تاريخ الإسلام منذ ظهوره إلى ما قبل وفاة المؤلف. وهو مصنف على نسق كتاب تاريخ بغداد والذي ألّفه الخطيب البغدادي. …

Translation

The book on the history of Damascus, whose full name is “A History of the City of Damascus - May God Protect It - and Mention of Its Virtue, and the Name of Those Who Solved It from the Examples, or Passed Through Its Areas from Its Residents and People” written by Imam Al-Hafiz, the Muhaddith of the Levant, Ibn Asakir. It is a huge book containing about eighty volumes. It is considered one of the largest, most voluminous and most important works in the history of Islam. In it, the author dealt with the history of the city of Damascus, and spoke about the biographies and narrations of notables and narrators from everyone who lived in, lived in, or passed through the city of Damascus. He translated a huge number of notables in the history of Islam from its appearance until before the author’s death. It is compiled in the style of the book The History of Baghdad, which was written by Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi. …
