The Book of Classes of Interpreters, a book written by Muhammad bin Ali bin Ahmed, Shams al-Din al-Dawoudi. It was said: He was of the Shafi’i school of thought, and it was said: He was of the Maliki school of thought. He was one of the students of Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti. He died in the year 945 AH. Among his works are: Dhayl Tabaqat al-Shafi’iyyah by al-Subki, and a translation by al-Hafiz al-Suyuti. Najm al-Din Muhammad al-Ghazi said about him: “He was the sheikh of the people of hadith in his time.” In the book, the author collected biographies of prominent commentators until the early tenth century AH, and he collected 704 translations.
