This book deals with the subject of codifying the Prophetic Sunnah during the second and third centuries AH, with reference to the fourth century, within the framework of a historical and methodological study. The author begins by defining basic terms such as writing, recording, and classification, then reviews the stages of development of the process of codifying the Sunnah in those periods, highlighting the scientific efforts made by hadith scholars in serving the Sunnah of the Prophet. The book aims to highlight the methodological, critical, doctrinal, and jurisprudential dimensions included in the codification process, considering it a gateway to understanding the general pattern of the work of the hadith scholars.
