Musnad Ahmad

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِعَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي صِيَامِ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ الشَّهْرِ صَوْمُ الدَّهْرِ وَإِفْطَارُهُ

Affan told us, he said: Shu`bah told us, on the authority of Muawiyah ibn Qurrah, on the authority of Abiha, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, who said regarding fasting three days of The month is the perpetual fast and breaking of the fast.

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ قَالَجَاءَ أَبِي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ غُلَامٌ صَغِيرٌ فَمَسَحَ رَأْسَهُ وَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُقَالَ شُعْبَةُ قُلْنَا لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ قَالَ لَا وَلَكِنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى عَهْدِهِ قَدْ حَلَبَ وَصَرَّ

Hajjaj told us, saying: Shu`bah told me, on the authority of Abu Iyas, who said: My father came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, when he was a young boy, and he wiped his head. And he asked for forgiveness for Shu`bah. We told him he had companions. He said, “No,” but he was in Aleppo during his reign.

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ أَصَابَ النَّاسَ قَرْحٌ وَجَهْدٌ شَدِيدٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ نُقَدِّمُ قَالَ أَكْثَرَهُمْ جَمْعًا وَأَخْذًا لِلْقُرْآنِ

Waki` narrated to us, on the authority of Sulayman bin al-Mughirah, on the authority of Humaid bin Hilal, on the authority of Hisham bin Amir al-Ansari, who said: “When it was the day of Uhud, people were afflicted with An ulcer and severe exertion. Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Dig it wide and bury the two and three in the grave.” They said, “O Messenger.” By God, whom do we advance? He said, “The one who compiles the Qur’an the most.”

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ قَالَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَشْتَرُونَ الذَّهَبَ بِالْوَرِقِ نَسِيئَةً إِلَى الْعَطَاءِ فَأَتَى عَلَيْهِمْ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ فَنَهَاهُمْ وَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَبِيعَ الذَّهَبَ بِالْوَرِقِ نَسِيئَةً وَأَنْبَأَنَا أَوْ قَالَ وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَنَّ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الرِّبَا

He said, Ismail told us, he said, Ayoub told us, on the authority of Abu Qalabah, they said: People used to buy gold with paper, seeking to give, so it came upon them. Hisham bin Amer forbade them and said, “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, forbade us from selling gold for paper at a bad price, and he warned us or He said and told us that that is usury.

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَخُطُّونَ إِلَى أَقْوَامٍ مَا هُمْ بِأَعْلَمَ بِحَدِيثِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَّا قُتِلَ أَبِي يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًاوَكَانَ أَبِي أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَقُدِّمَ

He said: Sufyan bin Uyaynah told us, on the authority of Ayyub, on the authority of Humaid bin Hilal, on the authority of Hisham bin Amir. I know more about the hadith of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, than we do. My father was killed on the day of Uhud, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Dig and expand.” And bury the two and three in the grave, and recite the best of them in reciting the Qur’an. My father was the one who recited the Qur’an the most, so he recited

قَالَوَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ وَاللَّهِ مَا بَيْنَ خَلْقِ آدَمَ إِلَى قِيَامِ السَّاعَةِ أَمْرٌ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ الدَّجَّالِ

He said: I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying, By God, what is between the creation of Adam until the Day of Judgment is something greater than the Antichrist.

حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ الرِّشْكِ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ قَرَأْتُهُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُعَاذَةَ الْعَدَوِيَّةَ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ قَالَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ مُسْلِمًا فَوْقَ ثَلَاثِ لَيَالٍ فَإِنْ كَانَ تَصَارَمَا فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ فَإِنَّهُمَا نَاكِبَانِ عَنْ الْحَقِّ مَا دَامَا عَلَى صُرَامِهِمَا وَأَوَّلُهُمَا فَيْئًا فَسَبْقُهُ بِالْفَيْءِ كَفَّارَتُهُ فَإِنْ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ وَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ سَلَامَهُ رَدَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَرَدَّ عَلَى الْآخَرِ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنْ مَاتَا عَلَى صُرَامِهِمَا لَمْ يَجْتَمِعَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَبَدًا

Ruh bin Ubadah told us, he said, Shu’bah told us on the authority of Yazid Al-Rashk, he said, Shu’bah read it to him, he said, “I heard Mu’adhah Al-Adawiyah, she said. I heard Hisham bin Amer say, “I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, say: It is not permissible for a Muslim to desert another Muslim for more than three nights. If they quarrel more than three times, then they are both straying from the truth as long as they remain strict, and the first of them is a Fay, so he precedes him with the Fay, his atonement, so if he submits He did not respond to him, but he returned his greetings to him. The angels responded to him, and Satan responded to the other. If they die as a result of their fasting, they will not meet in Paradise. Never

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ الرِّشْكِ عَنْ مُعَاذَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ مُسْلِمًا فَوْقَ ثَلَاثِ لَيَالٍ فَإِنَّهُمَا نَاكِبَانِ عَنْ الْحَقِّ مَا دَامَا عَلَى صُرَامِهِمَا وَأَوَّلُهُمَا فَيْئًا يَكُونُ سَبْقُهُ بِالْفَيْءِ كَفَّارَةً لَهُ وَإِنْ سَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يَقْبَلْ وَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ سَلَامَهُ رَدَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَرَدَّ عَلَى الْآخَرِ الشَّيْطَانُ وَإِنْ مَاتَا عَلَى صُرَامِهِمَا لَمْ يَدْخُلَا الْجَنَّةَ جَمِيعًا أَبَدًا

He said: Muhammad bin Ja’far told us, he said: Shu’bah told us, on the authority of Yazid al-Rashk, on the authority of Mu’adh, on the authority of Hisham bin Amir, that he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said May God bless him and grant him peace. It is not permissible for a Muslim to desert another Muslim for more than three nights, for they are both straying from the truth as long as they remain strict. حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ قَالَ قَالَ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَامِرٍجَاءَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَصَابَنَا قَرْحٌ وَجَهْدٌ فَكَيْفَ تَأْمُرُنَا قَالَ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَاجْعَلُوا الرَّجُلَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ قَالُوا فَأَيُّهُمْ نُقَدِّمُ قَالَ أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًاقَالَ فَقُدِّمَ أَبِي عَامِرٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَجُلٍ أَوْ اثْنَيْنِ

Bahz narrated to us, saying: Sulayman bin Al-Mughirah narrated to us, saying: Humayd bin Hilal narrated to us, saying: Hisham bin Amir said: The Ansar came to The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, on the day of Uhud. They said, “O Messenger of God, we have been afflicted with ulcers and fatigue, so how do you command us?” He said, “Dig in, expand, and make The two and three men in the grave said, “Which of them should we advance?” He said, “The one who recited the Qur’an the most.” He said, “So Abu Amir was presented in front of one or two men.”

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَقُتِلَ أَبِي يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ احْفِرُوا وَوَسِّعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًافَكَانَ أَبِي ثَالِثَ ثَلَاثَةٍ وَكَانَ أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَقُدِّمَ

He said, Abdul Razzaq told us, he said, Muammar told us, on the authority of Ayyub, on the authority of Humaid bin Hilal, he said, Hisham bin Amir told us, he said, “My father was killed on the day One day, so the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Dig, expand, and do well, and bury the two and three in the grave, and present most of them with a Qur’an.” And it was. My father was the third of three, and he was the one who recited the Qur’an the most.

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الدَّهْمَاءِ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَشَكَوْا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا بِهِمْ مِنْ الْقَرْحِ فَقَالَ احْفِرُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًافَمَاتَ أَبِي فَقُدِّمَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَجُلَيْنِ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حُمَيْدَ بْنَ هِلَالٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرَ بْنَ حَازِمٍ يُحَدِّثُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ وَزَادَ فِيهِ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ وَزَادَ فِيهِ وَأَعْمِقُوا

He said, Abdul Samad told us, he said, my father told us, Ayoub told us, on the authority of Humaid, on the authority of Abu Ad-Dahma, on the authority of Hisham bin Amir, they said, “They complained to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.” May God bless him and grant him peace. He said, “Dig up, do well, and expand, and bury the two and three in the grave, and bring forward most of them.” My father died and was brought before two men. Wahb bin Jarir told us, he said, my father told us, he said, I heard Humayd bin Hilal speaking on the authority of Saad bin Hisham, on the authority of his father Hisham bin Amir, said: When it was the day of Uhud, he mentioned the hadith. He said: Affan narrated to us. He said: I heard Jarir bin Hazim narrating This hadith is on the authority of Humayd ibn Hilal, and he added to it on the authority of Saad ibn Hisham, and he added to it and went deeper.

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ قَالَقَدِمَ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ الْبَصْرَةَ فَوَجَدَهُمْ يَتَبَايَعُونَ الذَّهَبَ فِي أُعْطِيَاتِهِمْ فَقَامَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الذَّهَبِ بِالْوَرِقِ نَسِيئَةً وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَوْ قَالَ إِنَّ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الرِّبَا

He said: Hassan bin Musa told us, he said: Hammad, meaning Ibn Zayd, told us, on the authority of Ayyub, on the authority of Abu Qalaba, who said: Hisham bin Amir came to Basra. He found them exchanging gold for their gifts, so he stood up and said that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, forbade selling gold for paper money. And he told us or said that this is usury.

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ خُصَيْفَةَ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ السُّلَمِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ نَافِعَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ أَخْبَرَهُأَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عُثْمَانُ وَبِي وَجَعٌ قَدْ كَادَ يُهْلِكُنِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْسِكْ بِيَمِينِكَ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُقَالَ فَفَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَذْهَبَ اللَّهُ مَا كَانَ بِي فَلَمْ أَزَلْ آمُرُ بِهِ أَهْلِي وَغَيْرَهُمْ

He said, a soul narrated to us, he said, Malik bin Anas narrated to us, on the authority of Yazid bin Khusaifa, that Amr bin Abdullah bin Ka’b Al-Sulami told him that Nafi’ ibn Jubayr told him that Uthman ibn Abi Al-Aas came to the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. Uthman said, “I have a pain that almost destroyed me.” He said The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, hold your right hand seven times and say, “I seek refuge in the glory and power of God from all evil.” So I did that. So God took away what was in me, and I continued to command my family and others to do so.

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ وَعَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ قَالَ رَوْحٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ وَامْرَأَةٍ مِنْ قَيْسٍ أَنَّهُمَاسَمِعَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي وَخَطَئِي وَعَمْدِيو قَالَ الْآخَرُ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ أَسْتَهْدِيكَ لِأَرْشَدِ أَمْرِي وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي

He said, Ruh and Abd al-Samad told us, they said, Hammad told us, Ruh said, Al-Jariri told us, on the authority of Abu Al-Ala, on the authority of Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas. And a woman from Qais said that they heard the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. One of them said, “I heard him saying, ‘O God, forgive me my sins and my mistakes.’” He said I heard the other one say, O God, I seek your guidance to guide my affairs, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of myself.

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اجْعَلْنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي فَقَالَ أَنْتَ إِمَامُهُمْ وَاقْتَدِ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ وَاتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لَا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا

He said: Abdul Samad told us, he said: Hammad told us, on the authority of Al-Jariri, on the authority of Abi Al-Ala, on the authority of Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas, I said, O Messenger of God, make me The imam of my people, and he said, “You are their imam,” and follow the example of the weakest among them, and appoint a muezzin who takes no reward for his call to prayer.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اجْعَلْنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي قَالَ أَنْتَ إِمَامُهُمْ فَاقْتَدِ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ وَاتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لَا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا

Affan told us, he said, Hammad bin Salamah told us, he said, Saeed Al-Jariri told us, on the authority of Abu Al-Ala, on the authority of Mutarrif, on the authority of Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas. I said, O Messenger of God, make me the imam of my people. He said, “You are their imam, so follow the example of the weakest of them and appoint a muezzin who does not take any reward for his call to prayer.”

حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ قَالَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ الصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنْ الْقِتَالِ وَكَانَ آخِرُ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ بَعَثَنِي إِلَى الطَّائِفِ قَالَ يَا عُثْمَانُ تَجَوَّزْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ فِي الْقَوْمِ الْكَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ

Yunus told us, he said: Hammad, meaning Ibn Zayd, told us, on the authority of Muhammad bin Ishaq, on the authority of Sa`id bin Abi Hind, on the authority of Mutarrif, who said: I entered upon Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas, and he said, “I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, say, ‘Fasting is a protection like the protection of one of you from fighting,’ and it was the last thing he entrusted me with.” The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, when he sent me to Taif, he said, O Uthman, continue praying, for among the people are the elderly and those in need.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ خُصَيْفَةَ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَأَتَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَبِي وَجَعٌ قَدْ كَادَ يُهْلِكُنِي فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ امْسَحْهُ بِيَمِينِكَ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُقَالَ فَفَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَذْهَبَ اللَّهُ مَا كَانَ بِي فَلَمْ أَزَلْ آمُرُ بِهِ أَهْلِي وَغَيْرَهُمْ

Ishaq bin Isa told us, he said Malik told us on the authority of Yazid bin Khusaifa that Amr bin Abdullah bin Ka’b told him on the authority of Nafi’ bin Jubayr, on the authority of Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas, said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, came to me and I was suffering from pain that almost killed me, so the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said to me: Peace and blessings of God be upon him. Wipe it with your right hand seven times and say, “I seek refuge in God’s glory and power from the evil of this great.” So I did that, so God removed what I had it and I still ordered it to my family and others.

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَشْيَاخَنَا مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ قَالُوا أَخْبَرَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ أَنَّهُ قَالَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُمَّ قَوْمَكَ وَإِذَا أَمَمْتَ قَوْمَكَ فَأَخِفَّ بِهِمْ الصَّلَاةَ فَإِنَّهُ يَقُومُ فِيهَا الصَّغِيرُ وَالْكَبِيرُ وَالضَّعِيفُ وَالْمَرِيضُ وَذُو الْحَاجَةِ

He said: Muhammad ibn Ja`far narrated to us: Shu`bah narrated to us, on the authority of al-Nu`man ibn Salim. He said: I heard our sheikhs from Thaqif. They said: Uthman ibn Ubai informed us: Al-Aas is that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said to me: “The mother of your people, and when you lead your people, make the prayer short for them, for the little ones will stand in it.” And the old, and the weak, and the sick, and those in need

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ حَدَّثَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَآخِرُ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَمَمْتَ قَوْمًا فَأَخِفَّ بِهِمْ الصَّلَاةَ

Muhammad ibn Ja`far narrated to us, Shu`bah narrated to us, on the authority of Amr ibn Murrah, who said: I heard Sa`id ibn al-Musayyab, who said: It was narrated by Uthman ibn Abi al-Aas, the latter said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, did not entrust me: If you lead a people, make the prayer shorter for them.
