Episode 1: The Young Dawud Defeats Jalut

The story of Prophet Dawud (David) begins while he was still young, standing on the battlefield with the army of Talut (Saul) against the mighty forces of Jalut (Goliath). By Allah's permission, that youth brought down the giant and turned the tide. Allah said, "So they defeated them by permission of Allah, and David killed Goliath, and Allah gave him the kingship and wisdom and taught him from that which He willedโฆ" (Qur'an 2:251). This verse captures the great leap in Dawud's life: from an ordinary young man to the recipient of "kingship and wisdom." The victory over Jalut was not by physical strength alone, but by "the permission of Allah" โ a reminder that the few can overcome the many when Allah wills. Allah then closes the verse with an eternal principle: "โฆAnd if it were not for Allah checking [some] people by means of others, the earth would have been corrupted, but Allah is full of bounty to the worlds" (Qur'an 2:251). Reflection: the beginning of Dawud's honor was the courage to defend the truth together with reliance upon Allah. True strength is not in the size of the body but in the certainty that help comes from Allah.
