أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ ابْنِ شُبْرُمَةَ عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ إِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ الْهَوَى لِأَنَّهُ يَهْوِي بِصَاحِبِهِ
Muhammad bin Humayd told us, Jarir told us, on the authority of Ibn Shubrumah, on the authority of Al-Sha’bi, he said, “Hawaa is called passion because it incites its companion.”
أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ قَالَ دَخَلَ رَجُلَانِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْأَهْوَاءِ عَلَى ابْنِ سِيرِينَ فَقَالَا يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ نُحَدِّثُكَ بِحَدِيثٍ قَالَ لَا قَالَا فَنَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكَ آيَةً مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَا لِتَقُومَانِ عَنِّي أَوْ لَأَقُومَنَّ قَالَ فَخَرَجَا فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَمَا كَانَ عَلَيْكَ أَنْ يَقْرَأَا عَلَيْكَ آيَةً مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ يَقْرَأَا عَلَيَّ آيَةً مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَيُحَرِّفَانِهَا فَيَقِرُّ ذَلِكَ فِي قَلْبِي
Saeed bin Amir told us on the authority of Asma bin Ubaid. He said: Two men of whims and desires entered upon Ibn Sirin and said, O Abu Bakr. We will narrate to you a hadith. He said, “No.” They said, “So we recite to you a verse from the Book of God.” He said, “No, you will stand up for me, or I will stand up.” He said, so they went out, and some of the people said. O Abu Bakr, it was not for you that they read to you a verse from the Book of God. He said, “I feared that they would read to me a verse from the Book of God and distort it.” This settles my heart
أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ سَلَّامِ بْنِ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْأَهْوَاءِ قَالَ لِأَيُّوبَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنْ كَلِمَةٍ قَالَ فَوَلَّى وَهُوَ يُشِيرُ بِأُصْبُعِهِ وَلَا نِصْفَ كَلِمَةٍ وَأَشَارَ لَنَا سَعِيدٌ بِخِنْصِرِهِ الْيُمْنَى
Sa`id told us on the authority of Salam bin Abi Muti’ that a man of those who follow desires said to Ayoub: O Abu Bakr, I ask you about a word he said. Then he turned away while pointing with his finger without saying a word, and Sa`id pointed to us with his right pinkie.
أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ كُلْثُومِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فَقَالَ أَزِيشَانْ
Suleiman bin Harb told us on the authority of Hammad bin Zayd on the authority of Kulthum bin Jabr that a man asked Saeed bin Jubayr about something and he did not answer him, so he was told Azizhan said
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ وَابْنِ سِيرِينَ أَنَّهُمَا قَالَا لَا تُجَالِسُوا أَصْحَابَ الْأَهْوَاءِ وَلَا تُجَادِلُوهُمْ وَلَا تَسْمَعُوا مِنْهُمْ
Ahmad told us, Zaida told us, on the authority of Hisham, on the authority of Al-Hasan and Ibn Sirin that they said, “Do not sit with those who have desires, and do not argue with them.” And do not listen to them
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ أُمَيٍّ عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ إِنَّمَا سُمُّوا أَصْحَابَ الْأَهْوَاءِ لِأَنَّهُمْ يَهْوُونَ فِي النَّارِ
Ahmad told us, Sharik told us, on the authority of Umayy, on the authority of Ash-Sha’bi, he said, “They are called people of desires because they fall into Hell.”
أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ ابْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ قَالَ مَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا مِنْ النَّاسِ الشَّرِيفُ وَالْوَضِيعُ عِنْدَهُ سَوَاءٌ غَيْرَ طَاوُسٍ وَهُوَ يَحْلِفُ عَلَيْهِ
Bishr ibn al-Hakam told us, Sufyan told us, on the authority of Ibn Maysara, he said: I have not seen any of the people, whether honorable or lowly, with whom he is a peacock. And he swears on it
أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ كُنَّا نَكْرَهُ كِتَابَةَ الْعِلْمِ حَتَّى أَكْرَهَنَا عَلَيْهِ السُّلْطَانُ فَكَرِهْنَا أَنْ نَمْنَعَهُ أَحَدًا
Bishr ibn al-Hakam told us, Sufyan told us, on the authority of al-Zuhri, he said: We hated writing down knowledge until the Sultan forced us to do it, so we hated to We prevent anyone from doing so
أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ قَالَ كَلَّمُوا مُحَمَّدًا فِي رَجُلٍ يَعْنِي يُحَدِّثُهُ فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ رَجُلًا مِنْ الزِّنْجِ لَكَانَ عِنْدِي وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي هَذَا سَوَاءً
Yusuf bin Musa told us, Muadh bin Muadh told us, Ibn Aoun told us, he said, “Speak to Muhammad about a man,” meaning he would speak to him. He said, “If he were a man from The Negro would have been the same for me and Abdullah bin Muhammad in this matter.
أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ الصَّلْتِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ سَأَلَ سَلْمُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ طَاوُسًا عَنْ مَسْأَلَةٍ فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ هَذَا سَلْمُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَهْوَنُ لَهُ عَلَيَّ
Yahya bin Hassan told us on the authority of Hammad bin Zaid on the authority of Al-Salt bin Rashid. Salam bin Qutaybah asked Tawus about a question, but he did not answer him. It was said: To him, this is Salam bin Qutaybah. He said, “That is easier for him for me.”
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَقَ عَنْ بَقِيَّةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي حَبِيبُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ مَا خِفْتُ أَحَدًا مِنْ النَّاسِ مَخَافَةَ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ
Ibrahim bin Ishaq told us on the authority of Baqiya. He said: Habib bin Salih told me, he said: I have never feared any of the people as much as Khalid bin Ma’dan.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ قَالَ كُنَّا نَهَابُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ هَيْبَةَ الْأَمِيرِ
Abu Nu`aym told us, Sufyan told us on the authority of Mughirah, he said: We feared Ibrahim for the prestige of the prince.
أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ قَالَ حَدَّثَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ يَوْمًا بِحَدِيثٍ فَقُمْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَاسْتَعَدْتُهُ فَقَالَ لِي مَا كُلَّ سَاعَةٍ أَحْلُبُ فَأُشْرَبُ
Suleiman bin Harb told us, Hammad bin Zaid told us, on the authority of Ayoub, he said: One day Sa`id bin Jubayr told us a hadith, so I got up to him and took him back, and he said: I milk every hour and drink
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ هُوَ ابْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ وَيَحْيَى بْنُ ضُرَيْسٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ أَنَّ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ كَرِهَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي الطَّرِيقِ
Muhammad ibn Humayd informed us, Harun ibn al-Mughirah told us, and Yahya ibn Dharis informed us, on the authority of Amr ibn Abi Qais, on the authority of Ata, that Abu Abd al-Rahman disliked talking on the road.
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ ضُرَيْسٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سِنَانٍ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فَحَدَّثَ بِحَدِيثٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مَنْ حَدَّثَكَ هَذَا أَوْ مِمَّنْ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا فَغَضِبَ وَمَنَعَنَا حَدِيثَهُ حَتَّى قَامَ
Abdullah bin Imran told us, Yahya bin Dhurais told us, Abu Sinan told us, on the authority of Habib bin Abi Thabit, he said, “We were with Sa’id bin Jubayr narrated a hadith, and a man said to him: Who told you this, or from whom did you hear this? He became angry and we prevented him from speaking until he got up.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ لَوْ رَفَقْتُ بِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ لَأَصَبْتُ مِنْهُ عِلْمًا كَثِيرًا
Abu Muammar Ismail bin Ibrahim told us, on the authority of Sufyan, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Abu Salamah, who said, “If I had been kind to Ibn Abbas, I would have been kind to him.” A lot of knowledge
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ أَخْبَرَنَا بَقِيَّةُ عَنْ أُمِّ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بِنْتِ خَالِدٍ قَالَتْ مَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا أَكْرَمَ لِلْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَبِي
Al-Hakam bin Al-Mubarak told us, Baqiya told us, on the authority of Umm Abdullah bint Khalid, she said, “I have never seen anyone more honorable for knowledge than my father.”
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ قَالَ قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَا يُحَدِّثْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا الثِّقَاتُ
Muhammad ibn Ahmad informed us, Sufyan informed us, on the authority of Mis’ar, he said, Sa’d ibn Ibrahim said, “No one narrates on the authority of the Messenger of God except the trustworthy ones.”
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ قَالَ كَانُوا لَا يَسْأَلُونَ عَنْ الْإِسْنَادِ ثُمَّ سَأَلُوا بَعْدُ لِيَعْرِفُوا مَنْ كَانَ صَاحِبَ سُنَّةٍ أَخَذُوا عَنْهُ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ صَاحِبَ سُنَّةٍ لَمْ يَأْخُذُوا عَنْهُ قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد مَا أَظُنُّهُ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ عَاصِمٍ
Muhammad bin Humayd told us, Jarir told us, on the authority of Asim, on the authority of Ibn Sirin, he said: They did not ask about the chain of transmission, then they asked afterward to find out. Whoever was a follower of the Sunnah, they took from him, and whoever was not a follower of the Sunnah, they did not take from him. Abu Muhammad said what I think he heard from Asim.
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ قَالَ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ إِذَا حَدَّثْتَنِي فَحَدِّثْنِي عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ فَإِنَّهُ حَدَّثَنِي بِحَدِيثٍ ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ بِسَنَةٍ فَمَا أَخْرَمَ مِنْهُ حَرْفًا
Muhammad told us, Jarir told us, on the authority of Amara bin Al-Qaqa’, he said, Ibrahim said, “If you narrate to me, then narrate to me, on the authority of Abu Zur’ah, for he narrated to me.” With a hadith, then I asked him a year after that, and he did not miss a single word from it.
